The dawn-to-dusk bandh has received the backing of a wide range of groups.
There has been widespread response in most parts of Tamil Nadu for the statewide bandh called by the state's oposition parties to demand the constitution of the Cauvery Management Board.
The dawn-to-dusk bandh call by the main opposition DMK has received the backing of a number of organisations representing farmers, traders, trade unions, lawyers, lawyers and others.
Protestors have held road and rail rokos at a number of places. Bus services continue to ply despite taking a hit in some regions.
The bandh comes just days after the ruling AIADMK had called a hunger strike over the issue.

In retaliation to Tamil Nadu bandh, Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj calls for Karnataka bandh on April 12 to oppose the formation of Cauvery Water Management Board, say reports.
The Supreme Court had ordered the constitution of the Board, which the Centre has dragged its feet on.
